Groombridge says the concept of applied observability in IT systems is well understood, and the idea is to optimize the internal state of a system by looking at the external output.

"You don't need to know how the system works, but look at output data to understand how it is functioning. We see the same thing happening to enterprises. Enterprises will begin to manage themselves in the same way," Groombridge says. "They will be able to adjust their behavior in response to what they are doing in the field. When decisions are made in an enterprise, they sometimes get executed differently than how they were envisaged, but with applied observability, this does not matter because you see actual results in real data."

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Groombridge also discusses:

  • Highlights of the report;
  • His thoughts on some of the technology trends;
  • How the trends impact CIOs.

Groombridge undertakes analysis on all phases of the IT sourcing cycle, with a particular focus on best practices in the sourcing of managed workplace services, hybrid infrastructure services and hosting of SAP systems.
