Three Key Principles for a Secure Business

Dell's Ripu Bajwa Recommends a Multi-Layered Defense Approach

Organizations must establish a robust cybersecurity strategy as cyberthreats grow more sophisticated and frequent. This involves managing intelligence, information and business operations while implementing multi-layered defenses, said Ripu Bajwa, director of sales and general manager of data protection and unstructured data solutions at Dell Technologies.

"In an era where attacks happen every 11 seconds, we must fortify our defenses and be prepared to handle new threats. We should assess the impact of those threats on the organization. It is important to fill the gaps and ensure that our organization is data resilient and can spring back to a normal state of operations quickly, with a clean dataset," Bajwa said.

While organizations can build resilience against known threats, protecting business infrastructure from unknown threats like zero-day malware, which comprises about two-thirds of all malware, presents a unique challenge.

"The attackers are working as a consortium, and you need to be ready to anticipate and counter the unknown. In that regard, [you need to] look at the NIST framework, which talks about identification, protection, detection, response and recovery," Bajwa said.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Bajwa also discussed:

  • How organizations can protect against unknown threats;
  • Ways to implement a multi-layered defense strategy;
  • The role of artificial intelligence and automation in cybersecurity.

Bajwa helps organizations modernize their data protection strategies and mitigate risks. He advocates proactive data management and recovery strategies. Bajwa has more than 25 years of experience in IT sales and business management and has worked in companies such as IBM, HCL and Tata Steel.
