The Tech-Driven Future of Construction

ARKANCE's Gregoire Arranz on How Digital Transformation Is Redefining AEC Industry
Gregoire Arranz, CEO, ARKANCE

The architecture, engineering and construction industry has been slow to embrace digital transformation. One reason for this may be the complex nature of the industry, which involves numerous procedures, policies and decision-makers. But collaboration tools, cloud computing and digital technology are introducing much-needed changes to improve efficiency, productivity and sustainability across the AEC industry.

"The construction industry is a network of many companies and actors working together between the owners, the designers, the main contractors and all the subcontractors," said Gregoire Arranz, CEO of ARKANCE. They need to use the same technology that will be implemented everywhere and involve decision-makers, he said.

The shift toward technology adoption is driven by mandates set by governments, regulators and business owners regarding the need to maintain documentation and ensure quality control, Arranz said.

"Cloud, smartphone and evolution of technology have made collaboration across companies much more possible ... Mindsets have evolved now. People in construction believe they cannot stick to the [old] way because margins are slim. The cost of materials is going up. Scarcity of people is also a problem everywhere," Arranz said.

Technology, he said, can help reduce material consumption, help people collaborate more efficiently and reduce the need for people to connect to people.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Arranz also discussed:

  • How digital technologies are transforming the AEC industry;
  • The role of collaboration tools in improving project efficiency;
  • The connection between sustainability and profitability in construction.

Arranz leads a team of more than 1,200 industry experts across 20 countries, driving the implementation of digital twin technology to enable production automation. His work focuses on developing advanced digital solutions that help construction and manufacturing companies to optimize their projects and enhance efficiency.
