Lenovo's AI Lead on Why AI Readiness Falls Short Despite Rising Priority Among CIOsArtificial intelligence is now on par with cybersecurity as a critical priority for CIOs worldwide. But despite growing interest, a Lenovo report found that most organizations are still in the early stages of AI readiness, facing hurdles that extend beyond technical capabilities to include talent acquisition, organizational culture and governance.

Finding skilled AI talent is particularly difficult, often more challenging than hiring for technical roles, the report said.
"AI is generating a positive momentum, with CIOs investing more and ramping up their initiatives," said Amith Parameshwara, Asia Pacific lead of AI practice, solutions and services at Lenovo. "But operationalizing AI is still a complex journey, and executives are seeking more guidance to bring these projects to fruition."
Much like CFOs rigorously oversee fiscal policies and performance, AI demands board-level attention and strategic oversight. "Assigning accountability for security and responsible AI at the C-level enables organizations to create comprehensive, enforceable policies," Parameshwara said. This top-down commitment helps drive organizationwide adoption and alignment.
Lenovo’s approach to AI implementation advocates for a phased strategy. Parameshwara said that CIOs often launch AI initiatives with focused, high-impact pilot projects to build momentum and gain stakeholder support. Following these pilot programs, establishing a structured training and governance framework is essential for sustainable, organizationwide AI integration.
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Parameshwara also discussed:
- The mounting pressure on IT leaders to demonstrate measurable business outcomes from AI investments;
- Common pitfalls organizations encounter when adopting generative AI technologies;
- How to effectively balance core IT functions with ambitious AI-driven innovation.
