Contrary to the belief that learning and development (also known as training and development) is an HR prerogative, Kali Durgampudi, chief technology officer at Zelis, came up with a disruptive idea - a separate learning and development department for tech organization.
Mixed with some routine fundamentals like online courses and guest lectures, Durgampudi has introduced ideas such as 'lunch and learn' and 'Wednesday wisdom' to increase the development and skilling opportunities.
"In a high-paced, high-velocity culture, the tech workforce needs to destress and maintain a balance. It is important for technology leaders to apply a scientific approach toward learning and leadership development," Durgampudi says. "Concepts like vertical and horizontal mobility are important tenets to provide growth opportunities and suitable work environment."
