Government Procurement Platform, GeM, Gets Cloud and AI Push

Government e Marketplace, GeM, a platform facilitating online procurement of goods and services for all Indian government departments, is set to undergo a major overhaul with an extensive AI and cloud push. GeM 2.0 will be built from scratch and hosted on the AWS cloud, with a focus on making the platform more inclusive, accessible and personalized for its customers.
Notable initiatives include the integration of AI for real-time translation and AI-assisted customer support and chat functionalities for a more conversational and intuitive user experience. GeM will leverage AI and advanced analytics to better understand market trends and offer tailored recommendations and competitive pricing by comparing with other marketplaces in real time.

With more than 110,000 buyers and 6 million sellers nationwide, GeM has facilitated more than 5 million orders since 2016. GeM's efficient and transparent procurement process has helped the Government of India save 10% per transaction for every contract going through the platform. In financial year 2023, GeM's gross merchandise value of orders reached nearly $25 billion.
