Excessive Data Consumption Deters Meaningful Insights

CleverInsight's Bastin Robin on Efficient Data Science Practices and Maximizing ROI
Bastin Robin, CTO and chief data scientist, CleverInsight

Every bit of data has a unique story to tell, said Bastin Robin, CTO and chief data scientist at CleverInsight. However, uncovering that story depends on the ability to derive valuable insights from the data. Unfortunately, organizations often hinder this process by mindlessly collecting data in their pursuit of becoming data-driven.

"Quantity of data is not as important as its quality. Nearly 70% of data gathered by organizations is irrelevant, making it difficult to extract meaningful insights,” he said.

The right approach to overcome this challenge involves identifying the business problem and formulating the appropriate question. Organizations must then collect the necessary data, if it is not already available, to effectively address the problem.

In this video interview conducted at Information Security Media Group's Bengaluru Cybersecurity Summit, Robin discusses:

  • Challenges around getting the right insights from the data;
  • Building data science expertise around domain knowledge;
  • ChatGPT’s impact on data science.

Robin has nearly 15 years of experience working in the field of data science. At CleverInsight, he is working on recommendation systems, spam filtering, user modelling, fraud detection, social graph mining, emotional modelling, sentimental analysis, graph search and churn prediction among others. His current research is based on handling unstructured data for industries such as FMCG and manufacturing.
