Enhancing Business Process Using the SAM Approach
Daimler Truck South Korea's Tony Shin on Integrating AI and RPA Into IT StrategyDaimler Trucks South Korea marks its 20th anniversary with plans to diversify its electric truck lineup from medium- to heavy-duty trucks. This shift is supported by the company's robust technology infrastructure.
As the IT industry pushes the envelope with a focus on streamlining operations and bolstering data privacy, enterprises must focus on simplifying and automating complex business processes to improve interdepartmental communication and efficiency, said Tony Shin, CIO of Daimler Trucks. The company’s IT strategy from 2024 to 2025 comprises simplification, automation and mobility, or SAM:
- Simplification: Simplifying business processes and creating a single interface across departments;
- Automation: Automating workflows that don’t require much human ingenuity for faster turnaround;
- Mobility: Putting all applications in the cloud for anytime, anywhere, any device access.
Enterprises can enhance mobility and cloud-based applications by integrating AI and robotic process automation, as well as using an AI chatbot for customer service and implementing 5G technology for better driving efficiency, Shin said. He advocates using proactive security measures, including vulnerability checks, encryption, and collaboration with the vehicle security team and government initiatives in Korea.
"While we are implementing classic AI, Copilot isn’t allowed yet for security reasons. But I feel generative AI can boost efficiency and productivity immensely, and soon we’d be piloting it," Shin said.
In this video interview with the Information Security Media Group, Shin also discussed:
- Strategies for simplifying business processes and enhancing automation;
- Managing data privacy and security across 128 applications that handle sensitive customer and truck information;
- Balancing data privacy responsibilities with technological advancements and security measures.
Shin heads the information technology and security functions for Daimler Trucks in South Korea. He has more than 20 years of leadership experience in companies such as Mercedes-Benz Korea. He is also a member of the International Organization for Standardization.
