Data Readiness Overestimated, Exposing Critical Gaps
HCLSoftware's Rajiv Shesh on Cataloging Data and Managing Metadata for AI AdoptionAs AI is becoming increasingly integral to business operations, ensuring data readiness and robust security is critical for its successful implementation. But, the real question is whether businesses are ready to embrace it, said Rajiv Shesh, chief revenue officer at HCLSoftware.
While many CIOs say their organizations are prepared to implement AI using their data lakes and warehouses, the reality is often starkly different. "In conversations about data readiness, customers often estimate they are 70% to 80% prepared, but when we dig deeper, the actual readiness is in the mid-single digits or early two digits," Shesh said. He underscored the importance of aligning data with local and global regulatory frameworks, such as GDPR and India’s DPDP Act, to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
"There is growing importance of composability in the era of hyper-personalization, and data cataloging and metadata management are becoming pivotal in crafting effective data strategies," he said.
In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Shesh also discussed:
- The complexity of integrating diverse data sources and its effects on AI-driven decision-making;
- The financial implications of AI adoption and strategies to manage costs effectively;
- How the lack of explainability in large language models affects their ability to solve fundamental business problems.
Shesh is responsible for revenue growth, marketing, customer advocacy and professional services. He has leadership experience of more than 30 years, with expertise in software, consumer electronics, aerospace, medical, automotive and manufacturing sectors.
