BigBasket Readying Tech to Deliver More Than Groceries
BigBasket's Rakshit Daga on a SaaS-Based Supply Chain Platform for DiversificationAs e-commerce becomes more hyperlocal and logistics become more efficient, online grocery delivery is emerging as a dynamic and exciting vertical. Multiple players are now transitioning from slotted delivery models to rapid delivery systems, driven by a scalable and robust tech infrastructure that optimizes delivery routes. BigBasket, a company that processes nearly half a million orders daily, is readying for its next big shift - expanding beyond groceries.
As India's largest online grocer, one of the key aspects of BigBasket's infrastructure is its versatile technology stack, capable of adapting to various supply chain types. Originally designed for grocery management, this system is now being extended to other industries, including electronic components, general merchandise and automotive spare parts.
"When you build a technology platform of this scale, a key architectural principle is ensuring the ability to experiment with different components. In the delivery space, routing is a core problem we aim to solve by optimizing delivery times," said Rakshit Daga, chief product and technology officer and head of SaaS business at BigBasket. "Our tech strategy focuses on two primary objectives: ensuring scalability and maintaining a seamless system that supports the dynamic demands of the supply chain and user experience."
In this video interview with the Information Security Media Group, Daga also discussed:
- Enhancing the tech platform's capabilities beyond delivering grocery supplies;
- Building SaaS-based supply chain platform BB Matrix;
- Application of generative AI in e-commerce and quick commerce.
Daga is responsible for perishable inventory management, delivery route optimization, fleet management, and fraud detection. Previously, he worked at SAP in tech leadership roles. He was the founder and CEO of QURATER, a company specializing in SaaS enterprise software products.
