Automation Does Not Warranty a True Digital Transformation

StarCIO's Isaac Sacolick on Why CIOs Are Behind in Their Transformation Journey
Isaac Sacolick, president and CIO, StarCIO

Although automation plays a major role in an organization's digital transformation journey, it is just one of the factors that enable the success of that transformation, says Isaac Sacolick, president and CIO at StarCIO - an organization that helps businesses in their transformation journey.

"Automation and cloud play a big part in one's digital transformation journey. But if that is all you did - automate a set of workflows, move to the cloud, upgrade some technologies - you really haven't changed the business," Sacolick says.

"You have changed the underlying platforms. I would argue that many businesses, if that's all they did over the last three years, in the next five years will find it difficult to compete," he adds.

In this video interview, Sacolick also discusses:

  • Why enterprises struggle with their digital transformation journey;
  • What it takes to become a data-driven CIO;
  • How businesses can achieve true digital transformation.

Sacolick is the author of several books including "Driving Digital: The Leader's Guide to Business Transformation Through Technology" and "Digital Trailblazer: Essential Lessons to Jumpstart Transformation and Accelerate Your Technology Leadership."
