Even as several educational institutions continue to have reservations about the use of ChatGPT, Millfield School is embracing this generative AI tool, and has seen over 50% of its students using it daily within just three months. Gary Henderson, director of IT at the school, firmly believes that blocking the use of ChatGPT would be a significant mistake.
"Control is largely an illusion. We encourage students and teachers to utilize ChatGPT to identify and solve problems in the most creative manner possible. Under our well-articulated AI governance policy, we encourage the ethical use of AI not only for enhancing performance but also for aiding problem-solving," he said.
In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Henderson discusses:
- Adoption of ChatGPT as a tool for innovation;
- Data analytics tools for better insights in decision making;
- Creating a robust cybersecurity mesh with technology and user awareness.
Henderson has more than 20 years of experience in education, across international and U.K. schools in primary, secondary and higher education sectors. With his specialization, he has successfully implemented many educational technology projects and has been involved in IT strategy development for schools.
