AI-Powered, Portable Autonomous Stores Disrupt Retail Sector

Juxta's Steve Liguori on Unstaffed Stores, Retail Tech and Tackling Labor Shortages
Steve Liguori, co-founder, chief marketing and product officer, Juxta

With traditional retailers in the U.S. and Europe facing labor shortages and investment constraints, there is a growing demand for autonomous retail outlets. Juxta - a global technology company - offers a solution with its unstaffed, portable turnkey retail store, Nomad. These stores can be installed and functional in under 12 hours at the cost of $250,000, which is significantly more economical than a standard convenience store in the U.S.

Juxta Nomad uses AI-powered sensor technology and a customer-centric design to operate without any full-time staff. Its sensors detect customer actions such as picking up or returning store items, while strategically placed cameras ensure a seamless shopping experience.

"Our technology integrates with established retail infrastructure, including both point-of-sale and back-office systems. Customers can use standard card-based payments to access the store, and our AI-driven systems dynamically create their shopping baskets," said Steve Liguori, co-founder, chief marketing and product officer, Juxta. "Our AI algorithm is designed to optimize the consumer experience while streamlining inventory tracking to increase profitability and reduce costs for retailers."

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Liguori also discussed:

  • Trends for micro, portable and autonomous convenience stores;
  • Role of technology in building Juxta Nomad stores;
  • Labor, capital and location challenges faced by retailers.

Liguori leads the product management, marketing and customer success teams and is responsible for building the brand and driving Juxta's innovative technologies. He has more than ten years of leadership experience in the retail sector.
